Chances are high that you’ve been to quite a few weddings but have never planned one. Think about those weddings you’ve been to. Some have been amazing while others not so much. The amazing ones were successful because they were able to implement that couples ideas and personalities.

When that couple decided to get married and celebrate their wedding with friends and family, they had an idea of what they wanted their celebration to be. The thing about a wedding is you only get one chance to get it right but if you’ve never planned one, how are you going to pull that off?

They chose vendors that were not only great at their job but also willing and able to align themselves with that couples vision. So here are six tips for choosing the vendors that will help you create the amazing wedding you’ve been dreaming about.

1. Prompt return of your phone calls and emails

Do they respond in a prompt manner? You should expect to get a call back or an email back within 24 hours. The only exception may be weekends when most vendors are at an event.

2. Willingness to meet with you to present their service

Will the vendor try to meet with you or at least schedule a phone call or video conference?

3. Do you like the person that shows up?

There is NOTHING worse than having to do business with someone you do not like. Choosing the person who feels right is one of the most important factors in picking the right vendor for your reception.

4. Reviews

Read some reviews to see what kind of experience you will likely get from that vendor. Does the vendor have any bad reviews? This can actually be just as helpful as a bunch of good reviews. The way in which they respond speaks volumes. If something doesn’t go perfectly at your wedding are they able to adjust? What did they do to try and correct the situation in the moment and if needed after the fact?

5. Do they use professional grade equipment?

The DJ, photographer and videographer should be able to tell you what they use and characterize the equipment as professional grade.

6. Will they offer to meet with you after signing the contract to plan your event?

A professional is ALWAYS willing to discuss your event at any time before the event starts, and should display the flexibility to accommodate changes and help you solve problems.
